Schools' Competitions

For 2011-12 the school championships will be held in two sections, Surrey County and Metropolitan:
  • County: schools in the Surrey County Council area
  • Metropolitan: schools in the London Boroughs, these schools will play along with those from Middlesex.

Umpires/Tournament Organisers

Umpires for the county heats are provided by the schools - though a number of them are prepared to hire umpires. In general the tournaments involving boys are stronger and more 'gritty'. Though all games are competitive and teh teams are very grateful to have Umpires. Last season four sides playing in either the Surrey or London Championships were national champions (Kingston GS U18 Girls, Whitgift U14 Boys, Cranleigh U18 Boys).

The County/Region provide umpires for the County Finals and the South Rounds.

All roles are paid
  • umpires £10 per hour at Level 1; £15 per hour at Level 2/3
  • tournament organisers £15 per hour

Clubs' Minis (In2Hockey)

Under 10s: 11 March
Under 12s: 18 March

Age qualification is under the above ages on 31 August 2011.

If you wish to host we require pitches in blocks of 3 or 4 hours on the above days, please contact the Organiser (Kevin Pacey).

It is proposed to hold an 'A' and a 'B' section in each age group. Clubs may enter as many teams as they but if they enter more than one then their first team must play in the 'A' section. The 'B' section is aimed at those developing a new side or a new club and to try and should mean fewer teams and therefore a "tighter" competition in the A's with fewer one sided games.

Only the winners and runners-up of the A tournament will progress to the South championship as before (in April 2012).

A & B tournaments will run concurrently so players cant play in both, apart from the exception described below.

Clubs may enter as many sides as they want, but if you enter more than one team then your "A Team" must play in the A competition. Clubs who are only fielding one side may enter it into the B tournament, but please note this is aimed at encouraging clubs with new  and/or weaker junior sections.

Those players who have played in the Under 10's are allowed to play in the U12 B tournament (you are still not allowed to play in U10&12 A teams)

In all tournaments, teams MUST have a fully kitted goalkeeper, but in the B tournament, goalies will be allowed to play for more than 1 team (or club!)

The format of each competition will be the same as, with round-robin group games followed by "supergroups", semi's and finals, depending on entry numbers.
