About Us
The Surrey Hockey Association was formed in 2000 when the separate men’s, women’s and mixed associations merged. It covers the geographic county of Surrey plus a number of London boroughs south of the Thames.
The Association provides general administration, oversees playing, discipline, hockey development and delivers the junior programme within the county. All Clubs and Schools playing hockey within the county are required to affiliate to the county. The county runs a men’s cup and a ladies league which are open to all affiliated clubs.
Hockey development and the provision of the junior programme are becoming the main part of the county’s output. Hockey development is led by Mark Atherton, the Hockey Development Officer. It is a wide ranging remit covering anything that increases participation at either a junior or senior level. Whether this is the provision of courses, the activating of a school-club link or assistance with grant applications.
